JOY

Real contentment has nothing to do with either prosperity or poverty. Contentment is an inside job, the result of knowing God and living life against the backdrop of eternity.

el nino is spanish for... the nino

Bienvenida! First, I'd like to thank all of you for the support, prayers and encouragement I have received for my soon to be trek to central America. For those of you who do not know, I will be embarking on a year long journey to the island of Roatan, off the coast of Honduras on August 8th. I will be teaching English to grades 7-11. Although I have little experience in the professional teaching realm, I have complete faith that God will provide me the knowledge and depth of insight as I learn and humble myself before wise mentors, fellow peers and young students. I am extremely excited about this ordained opportunity to not only teach but invest into the lives of the Bay Island community. I will hopefully be updating this blog weekly and would love for you to follow along!

As many of you know, I have been living in Charleston, SC for the past 2 years, working for several corporations here in the area. I have been blessed with wonderful beaches, a Seacoast community church to call home and the best friends a girl could ask for. I have prayed for an opportunity to work or teach abroad since I graduated from Appalachian State (GO MOUNTAINEERS!) and everything fell into place at the beginning of 2010. I told God that I would go where He sent me, so off I go! Please pray for safe travels and for the Roatan community as we transition into our new homes. Pray that hearts will be open and lives will be changed. I LOVE YOU ALL!

So excited for some traditional Caribbean food...

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
